Mardi Himal, standing at 5587 meters, is situated in the Annapurna zone alongside Nepal’s revered Mountain, Machhapuchhare (Fishtail). The Mardi Himal trek is a relatively new trail that has quickly gained popularity among both international visitors and local Nepalese.

The history of the Mardi Himal trek dates back to 1961 when Mountaineer Basil Goodfellow first summited the peak. However, the trek wasn’t officially opened to trekkers until 2012. Post-2012, a new trail was established, featuring stunning ridges and charming teahouses up to High Camp (3550m). For those seeking further adventure, the trek continues from the Upper Viewpoint (4200m) to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4500m).

The trek starts from Nepal’s tourism hub, Pokhara, and passes through picturesque villages like Dhampus and Pothana. The route then ascends through lush forests of rhododendron, oak, and bamboo, culminating at Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4500m.

Route Overview

 

The Mardi Himal Trek 10 Days begins upon your arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu. A RaceAlpine Nepal representative will greet you and transfer you to a nearby hotel. You’ll be briefed about your trip and itinerary, with opportunities to explore the vibrant tourist hub.

The next day, a bus ride along winding roads and majestic mountains takes you to Pokhara. After arriving in Pokhara, you can explore the city’s lively streets or relax by the lakeside.

From Pokhara, you’ll drive to Kande, where your trek to Pothana via Australian Camp begins. The trail ascends through magnificent landscapes to Pothana.

The trek continues to Forest Camp (Kokar) via Pitam Deurali, the junction of two famous trekking routes. The right trail leads to Mardi Himal, while the left heads to Annapurna Base Camp. As you traverse enchanting forests, you’ll reach Forest Camp.

From Forest Camp, the route ascends to High Camp, passing Rest Camp and Low Camp. The trail winds through dense forests, occasionally offering glimpses of Mardi Himal and Machhapuchhre. Lunch at Badal Danda precedes the approach to High Camp, transitioning into an alpine landscape.

On day 6, you reach Upper Viewpoint, offering unparalleled views of the Annapurna Ranges and Mardi Himal. The return journey to Badal Danda allows you to rediscover the trail’s beauty.

The final trek to Siding culminates in a bus ride back to Pokhara, where you can enjoy the city’s vibrancy. The following day, a bus ride takes you back to Kathmandu, with time to rest or explore. On the final day, a RaceAlpine Nepal representative will transfer you to the airport.

 


 

Is This Trek Right for You?

 

The difficulty of the Mardi Himal Trek varies with your physical fitness. It is generally considered moderate, with many finding it easier due to its shorter duration and less challenging terrain. First-time trekkers or beginners may find it moderately difficult due to long walks and uphill climbs.

No prior trekking experience is necessary, and the itinerary includes ample rest time for acclimatization. However, a reasonable level of physical fitness is required for this trek.

 


 

Best Time to Trek Mardi Himal

 

The optimal times for the Mardi Himal Trek are in spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November). These seasons offer ideal weather and stunning landscapes, with trails adorned with blooming wildflowers, including rhododendrons.

While trekking in winter (December-February) and summer (June-August) is possible, snow and slippery trails can present additional challenges. For the best experience, plan your trek during spring or autumn.
