Overview

Trip Overview

Nestled in the far-eastern reaches of Nepal, the Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek – 22 Days offers one of the most rewarding and untouched trekking experiences in the Himalayas. This 22-day journey is an epic adventure that brings you face to face with the world’s third-highest peak, Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586 meters), and takes you deep into remote valleys, across high passes, and through traditional villages where ancient Tibetan and Rai cultures thrive.

Unlike the more commercialized trails of Everest and Annapurna, the Kanchenjunga region remains wild, rugged, and pristine, preserving its raw beauty and authenticity. Trekking here is a true adventure designed for those seeking solitude, challenging trails, and a deep connection with nature. Every day presents a new landscape — from subtropical forests, rhododendron hills, and alpine meadows to glacial valleys and barren high-altitude terrains.

Adventure into the Remote Eastern Himalayas

The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek – 22 Days explores the remote landscapes of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, which spreads over an area of 2,035 square kilometers and is home to an incredible array of biodiversity. Throughout the journey, trekkers may encounter endangered species such as the Snow Leopard, Red Panda, and Himalayan Black Bear.

The trek offers a rare opportunity to visit both the North Base Camp (Pangpema at 5,143 meters) and the South Base Camp (Ramche at 4,580 meters), allowing trekkers to experience diverse vistas of Mt. Kanchenjunga’s imposing glaciers, towering peaks, and dramatic landscapes from different angles.

Passing through traditional villages such as Taplejung, Ghunsa, Kambachen, and Yamphudin, the trek also offers meaningful cultural exchanges. You will meet Limbu, Sherpa, Rai, and Tibetan communities, experiencing a harmonious blend of traditions, languages, and religious practices.

The Trekking Experience

The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek – 22 Days starts with your arrival in Kathmandu, where you prepare for the adventure and experience the city’s rich heritage. A short domestic flight takes you to Bhadrapur, from where a drive leads to the trailhead at Taplejung.

The initial days of the trek involve hiking through lush forests, terraced fields, and vibrant villages. As you gradually ascend, the environment transforms — tropical vegetation gives way to rhododendron and bamboo forests, eventually reaching the sparse landscapes above 4,000 meters.

The trek to the North Base Camp at Pangpema is an absolute highlight. From here, the magnificent north face of Kanchenjunga dominates the skyline, accompanied by views of Tent Peak, Nepal Peak, and the Wedge Peak. After reaching the northern base camp, trekkers retrace their steps to Gunsa and cross the Sele La Pass (4,290 meters) to make their way toward the South Base Camp.

The route to the South Base Camp at Ramche offers stunning views of Yalung Glacier and majestic peaks such as Kabru, Rathong, and Koktang. At Ramche, trekkers can savor panoramic scenes of snow-capped mountains rising above vast glacial valleys.

The descent through vibrant villages, forests filled with rhododendrons and orchids, and traditional farmlands leads to Yamphudin and eventually back to Bhadrapur for a flight to Kathmandu, marking the end of this life-changing journey.

Physical Challenge and Preparation

The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek – 22 Days is categorized as a strenuous trek. Daily walking hours range between 6 to 8 hours, with significant ascents and descents across varying terrains. The maximum altitude reached is 5,143 meters, requiring trekkers to be well-acclimatized to high altitudes.

Due to the remoteness, rugged trails, and occasional basic accommodations, trekkers should be in excellent physical condition. It is highly recommended to undergo cardiovascular training, endurance exercises, and strength workouts several months prior to the trek. Experience with previous multi-day high-altitude trekking is a significant advantage.

Route Overview of the Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek (K3 Trek)

Your incredible journey to the Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek – 22 Days begins the moment you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu. Upon landing, a friendly representative from our team  Race Alpine Nepal Treks and Tours  will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. Here, you will attend a detailed briefing session covering your upcoming trekking itinerary and essential preparations.

The real adventure starts with a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur (Chandragadhi Airport), located in the eastern region of Nepal. From Bhadrapur, you’ll embark on a scenic drive towards Taplejung, the vibrant starting point of the Kanchenjunga trail.

From Taplejung, your trekking adventure kicks off towards Shekathum, traversing through lush valleys, terraced fields, and serene rural landscapes. As the trail progresses, you’ll cross several rivers and suspension bridges, passing quaint villages such as Amjilosa and Gyabla, each offering unique glimpses into the lifestyle and traditions of the local communities.

Upon reaching Ghunsa, a beautiful Sherpa settlement, you’ll experience the rich cultural heritage and unique mountain hospitality of the region. A scheduled acclimatization day here ensures that you adapt well to the increasing altitude while giving you a chance to explore the vibrant village and its surroundings.

After sufficient rest, the journey continues higher towards Kambachen and then Lhonak. As you ascend, the landscape transforms into rugged terrains with dramatic vistas. Along the way, you’ll be greeted by stunning panoramas of mighty Himalayan peaks, including the majestic Mt. Jannu (Kumbhakarna).

From Lhonak, the trail leads to the iconic Pangpema, also known as the North Base Camp of Kanchenjunga. This is a highlight of the trek — here, you’ll witness the awe-inspiring north face of Mount Kanchenjunga, the third-highest mountain in the world, along with the sprawling Kanchenjunga Glacier. The surrounding scenery at Pangpema is nothing short of surreal, offering a perfect reward for your effort.

After soaking in the grandeur of Pangpema, the route retraces back to Ghunsa. The next phase of the journey involves crossing the scenic Sele Le Pass, one of the most thrilling sections of the Kanchenjunga circuit. From the pass, you’ll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of towering peaks like Makalu, Baruntse, and Jannu.

Descending from Sele Le, the trail moves towards Cheram. From there, you head deeper into the Yalung Valley to reach Ramche and finally Oktang, the South Base Camp. Here, you are treated to incredible views of the Yalung Glacier and the dramatic south face of Kanchenjunga, another magical highlight of the trek.

After spending time at the South Base Camp, you begin your descent through the remote settlements of Torongden and Yasang before reaching Hellok, marking the end of the trekking journey.

From Hellok, a scenic drive takes you back to Taplejung. You’ll continue your return journey with a drive to Bhadrapur and a short flight back to Kathmandu. This concludes your unforgettable expedition to one of Nepal’s most remote and majestic trekking destinations.

The most favorable seasons for trekking to Kanchenjunga Base Camp are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These periods are known for their stable climate, bright skies, comfortable temperatures, and unobstructed mountain views — all key elements for a rewarding trekking adventure. Spring, spanning from March to May, is particularly enchanting. After the winter thaw, the trails come alive with vibrant rhododendron blooms, wildflowers, and lush greenery. Trekkers journey through dense forests of pine, fir, and bamboo, accompanied by the soothing sounds of birds and flowing streams. Stunning vistas of Kanchenjunga, Yalung Kang (8,505m), Jannu Himal, and Kangbachen elevate the experience, while melting snow feeds roaring rivers and cascading waterfalls, adding even more scenic drama. The post-monsoon clarity brings crystal-clear skies, allowing for jaw-dropping panoramas of peaks like Makalu (the world’s fifth highest) and Jannu in stunning detail. During both of these seasons, lodges and teahouses are fully operational, ensuring comfortable accommodations along the trail. 🚫 Seasons to Avoid: Summer (June to August): Marked by heavy monsoon rains, slippery trails, and landslide risks. Winter (December to February): Characterized by harsh cold, deep snow, and many guesthouses closing at higher elevations.

The Kanchenjunga Trek stands among the most physically demanding and remote high-altitude adventures in Nepal. It’s an extensive journey that requires both endurance and resilience, ideal for experienced trekkers seeking a serious challenge. This trek is classified as strenuous due to the complex terrain and length of the expedition, which explores both the northern and southern base camps of the majestic Kanchenjunga massif. The route includes everything from winding paths, steep stone climbs, and icy trails, to glacial crossings such as those over the Yalung and Kanchenjunga Glaciers. Trekkers will also ascend several high mountain passes, including Sele La, Mirgin La, and Sinelapche Bhanjyang, each rising above 3,500 meters, which demand proper acclimatization and solid physical conditioning. On average, participants trek between 5 to 7 hours a day for roughly 17 to 19 days, navigating remote, rugged trails that are sometimes susceptible to landslides and require sure-footedness and mental preparedness.

Yes, travelers from most countries are eligible for a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. To apply, you’ll need a passport valid for at least six months with one blank page and two recent passport-sized photographs. For a faster process, complete the online visa application form beforehand. Once at the airport, pay the visa fee in USD or other widely accepted currencies at the immigration counter. Processing time may vary depending on the number of arriving passengers.

No, we do not handle bookings for international flights. All travelers are required to make their own flight arrangements to and from Nepal.

Yes, travel insurance is a compulsory requirement for the Kanchenjunga trek. Due to the remote landscapes and high-altitude risks involved, a comprehensive insurance plan provides essential coverage for medical emergencies, evacuations, and unexpected trip interruptions—ensuring your safety and peace of mind throughout the journey.

There are no compulsory immunization requirements for trekking in the Kanchenjunga or Pangpema Base Camp areas. However, it's strongly advised to consult your healthcare provider before traveling. Make sure your standard vaccinations—such as Tetanus, Typhoid, Hepatitis A, Polio, and Diphtheria—are current. This precaution is especially important if you're arriving from a region with varying health risks.

Local SIM cards may provide limited connectivity in the lower sections of the Kanchenjunga trail. However, as you ascend into more remote and rugged terrain, mobile signal becomes extremely scarce or non-existent. Therefore, relying solely on a local SIM is not advisable for the majority of the trek. For consistent communication and safety in isolated areas, carrying a satellite phone is the most dependable option. Important Notes on SIM Card Usage Along the Kanchenjunga Route: Signal is available only in some lower villages. Higher altitudes have little to no reception. Internet access is minimal or unavailable. A satellite phone offers the best communication support in emergencies. Spotty Mobile Signal: You can buy a local SIM card (such as from Ncell or NTC) in Kathmandu, but keep in mind that mobile connectivity significantly drops as you move to higher elevations. Many parts of the upper trail have little to no coverage. Works Better at Lower Altitudes: In lower regions like around Ghunsa village, you might find a usable signal, but it’s not guaranteed throughout the route. Best Alternative – Satellite Device: For consistent and dependable communication, especially in remote areas, we recommend using a satellite phone or messaging device. Although we don’t supply these directly, we’re happy to assist you in arranging one for an additional fee.

Unfortunately, solo trekking to the Kanchenjunga Base Camps is not permitted, as the region falls under Nepal’s restricted trekking zones. You must be part of a group of at least two trekkers and be accompanied by a licensed guide. This regulation is in place primarily for safety reasons—considering the remote terrain, high altitudes, unpredictable weather, and potential risks like altitude sickness or avalanches. Additionally, you’ll need both a Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Permit (KCAP) and a Restricted Area Permit (RAP). The RAP strictly requires a minimum of two people and can only be issued through a registered trekking agency. We’ll handle the full permit process for you.

There’s no official age limit for trekking to Kanchenjunga Base Camp, but physical fitness is essential. Anyone planning to join the trek should be in good health, mentally resilient, and prepared for demanding days of hiking—typically 6 to 7 hours a day—at high altitudes. Because the trek is physically demanding, involving steep climbs, uneven trails, and remote terrain, participants should be comfortable with strenuous activity. Unpredictable weather and long distances make it even more important to be well-prepared.

While it’s technically possible to attempt the Kanchenjunga trek without prior trekking experience, it’s not recommended. The route is remote, physically demanding, and involves navigating high-altitude terrain. Most professionals advise gaining some trekking experience before taking on this challenging journey. That said, if you're in good shape, mentally prepared, and well-equipped, it’s doable with the right mindset and support. Preparing through cardio training, strength building, and researching the route can make a big difference. Suggested Options for Beginners: If you’re new to trekking, consider starting with less demanding routes like the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek or the Langtang Valley Trek. These are great introductions to trekking in Nepal before progressing to more remote and strenuous adventures like Kanchenjunga.

To get ready for the Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek, focus on improving both endurance and strength. Begin with cardiovascular exercises like jogging, swimming, cycling, or brisk walking—these help boost your stamina for long trekking days. Complement that with strength training, especially for the legs. Exercises such as squats, lunges, deadlifts, step-ups, leg presses, and wall sits will build the muscle needed to handle steep climbs and descents. Regular hiking is essential. Start with light day hikes carrying a loaded backpack, then gradually increase the duration and difficulty. This will help your body adjust to carrying gear over uneven terrain. Spending time at altitude before the trek is highly recommended to help your body acclimate and reduce the risk of altitude sickness. Maintaining a steady pace during the trek and managing your energy throughout the day is also crucial. Dress in appropriate layers to stay warm at night and cool during the day. Quality trekking boots, trekking poles, and a well-fitted backpack are important for comfort and injury prevention. Mental readiness is just as vital. A positive attitude, adaptability, and mental resilience will help you face any unexpected situations on the trail. Practicing deep breathing techniques and mentally visualizing the trek can build focus and calmness at altitude. Looking for more trekking preparation tips?

Yes, hiring a guide is mandatory for trekking to Kanchenjunga. As part of Nepal’s safety regulations for restricted areas, all trekkers must be accompanied by a licensed guide affiliated with an authorized trekking agency. This rule is in place to enhance safety and ensure proper support throughout the journey in such remote and challenging terrain.

At RaceAlpine Nepal, your safety—as well as that of our guides and porters—is our highest priority. Our guides are seasoned professionals from the region, well-versed in the terrain, culture, and changing weather patterns of the Kanchenjunga area, especially among the Rai and Limbu communities. They are trained in essential first aid skills and carry oximeters to regularly check oxygen saturation and heart rate at higher altitudes. With the knowledge to recognize and manage symptoms of altitude-related illnesses such as Acute Mountain Sickness, they are fully prepared to handle unexpected challenges and reroute the trek if necessary. In addition to safety, our guides oversee trip logistics, secure lodging in areas with limited teahouses, and share cultural insights, enhancing your overall experience. Their expertise ensures a safe, seamless, and unforgettable adventure to both the North and South Base Camps of Kanchenjunga.

Smart packing is crucial for an enjoyable and safe trekking experience in the Kanchenjunga region. With remote trails and unpredictable mountain weather, having the right gear ensures comfort, safety, and preparedness throughout the journey. Clothing Essentials Layering your clothes will help you adjust to the varying temperatures along the trail. Bring a combination of moisture-wicking short and long-sleeve trekking tops, thermal base layers, and lightweight, quick-dry hiking trousers. A fleece layer and insulated down jacket will provide necessary warmth at higher elevations. Also, pack a reliable waterproof and wind-resistant jacket and trousers for weather protection. A warm beanie or hat is ideal for cold mornings and evenings. Footwear Recommendations Choose durable trekking boots with strong ankle support and good traction for navigating rocky and uneven trails. For downtime at tea houses or campsites, lightweight sandals or comfortable slip-ons will let your feet relax after a long day of walking. First Aid & Medical Supplies Your personal medical kit should include adhesive bandages, antiseptic ointment, paracetamol or ibuprofen, and altitude sickness pills (consult your doctor). Be sure to include any prescription medications or specific health essentials you need. Other Must-Haves A reliable headlamp with spare batteries is important for early departures or late-night movement. Hydration is key, so carry a reusable water bottle or hydration pack, along with purification tablets or a water filter. Protect your eyes with UV-blocking sunglasses, and bring a power bank or solar charger for electronics. A four-season sleeping bag is vital, as nights can be extremely cold. Also, carry compact personal hygiene items such as biodegradable soap, wet wipes, and toilet paper. Helpful Tips Leave unnecessary electronics like laptops and large devices at home—they only add weight. Stick to lightweight gear and minimal toiletries. Always double-check your first aid kit to ensure it includes everything needed for basic treatment and altitude-related issues. Before heading out, review the local weather forecast for eastern Nepal and consult a comprehensive packing checklist for this specific region.

Yes, our trekking guides come prepared with a basic medical kit that includes essential supplies for treating minor injuries and common altitude-related symptoms encountered on the trail. While they are trained to handle basic first aid, personal prescription medications are not included, so we advise you to carry any specific medicines you may require during the trek. For added safety, our guides also carry a pulse oximeter to monitor your oxygen saturation and heart rate regularly at higher elevations.

Bringing trekking poles is highly recommended for the Kanchenjunga Base Camp journey. They provide added stability and support, especially on steep climbs, descents, and rocky or uneven sections of the trail. Using poles also helps minimize stress on your knees and ankles, making long walking days more manageable.

Balance and Support: Trekking poles enhance your balance by distributing body weight evenly, which is especially helpful on rough and uneven trails. Joint Relief: They ease the impact on your knees and ankles, reducing pressure during long descents or extended walking days. Challenging Sections: Poles prove extremely beneficial when navigating steep climbs, downhill slopes, and rocky or unstable ground. The Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek is categorized as a strenuous adventure, involving rugged and remote landscapes with continuous ascents, sharp descents, rocky stairways, and river crossings. For this reason, we strongly advise every trekker to bring trekking poles. You'll also encounter landslide-prone zones around Ghunsa and Lhonak, as well as high-altitude passes such as Sele La, Sinion La, and Mirgin La. The route also includes glacier walks near Kanchenjunga and Yalung, along with icy, slippery stone trails—places where trekking poles offer added stability and confidence. Using poles not only improves safety but also helps preserve your energy, especially when tackling steep sections with the extra weight of your backpack.

To explore the Kanchenjunga Base Camp, you'll need two essential trekking permits: Restricted Area Permit (RAP): Required for entering the protected zones of the Kanchenjunga region, designated as restricted by the Nepalese government. Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Project (KCAP) Permit: This allows you to trek within the boundaries of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. Since Pangpema (Kanchenjunga North Base Camp) lies within a government-declared restricted area, special permission is mandatory, and solo trekking is prohibited—you must trek in a group with a licensed guide. Permit costs may vary depending on the season and duration of your trek. At Nepal Hiking Team, we handle all permit arrangements in advance, so you're fully prepared to explore this remote and stunning trail without any bureaucratic hassle.

During your stay in Kathmandu, you'll be accommodated in a well-rated 3-star hotel—such as Hotel WoodApple & Spa or another hotel of similar standard. These hotels offer comfortable, clean rooms with modern facilities to ensure a relaxing stay. Breakfast is included, while lunch and dinner are at your own expense, giving you the flexibility to explore local dining options. If you prefer a higher level of comfort, you can upgrade to a 4-star or 5-star hotel for an extra charge. Just let us know ahead of time, and we’ll be happy to make the necessary arrangements.

While trekking the Kanchenjunga Circuit, you'll stay in a mix of teahouses, basic lodges, homestays, and occasionally campsites. These are small, locally operated setups offering simple rooms and homemade meals—far more rustic compared to what you’d find in trekking regions like Everest or Annapurna. Lodging is modest, with shared facilities, basic bedding, and limited amenities. Rooms usually have twin beds with blankets, and meals are hearty but plain—typically featuring Nepali staples like dal bhat, dhido, soups, and noodles. In remote areas such as Ghunsa, Kambachen, and Lhonak, accommodations are scarce, with only a few teahouses available. That’s why we strongly suggest booking in advance, especially during the high trekking seasons—spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November)—to ensure a place to stay each night.

Yes, basic toilet facilities are available throughout the Kanchenjunga trekking route, mainly at teahouses and lodges, especially in the lower sections. These are typically simple squat-style toilets, and cleanliness can vary depending on the location. As you ascend to higher altitudes and more remote areas, toilet access becomes more limited. In such areas without built facilities, you may need to find a secluded spot behind rocks, bushes, or trees, away from the trail and water sources. It's highly recommended to bring your own hygiene essentials, including toilet paper, biodegradable soap or hand sanitizer, and other personal toiletries, as these items might be hard to find or sold at higher prices along the way.

While trekking to Kanchenjunga Base Camp, the most commonly served meal is "Dal Bhat"—a traditional Nepali dish made of rice, lentil soup, vegetable curry, and spicy pickles. In addition to this staple, you may also find Tibetan bread, soups, Sherpa stew, dumplings, noodles, thukpa, pasta, and mixed vegetable salads, depending on the resources available at different tea houses along the trail. Meals are selected from a fixed menu offered by the teahouses. Please note that beverages like soft drinks and alcoholic drinks, as well as snacks, are not included in the meal plan and must be purchased separately. Due to the remote nature of the area, food options are generally basic, and international dishes are rarely available.

Yes, drinking water is available throughout the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek, but it must be treated before drinking to prevent health issues. Where to Find Water: You can access water from various sources along the route. Outdoor taps are commonly located near guesthouses, at rest stops, and in community areas. Natural water sources like streams are also available, though these must be purified. In villages and teahouses, you can buy boiled or filtered water for safe consumption. Purifying Water: To make sure your water is safe, bring water purification tablets or a portable filtration device. These tools are essential for treating water collected from taps or natural sources. Bottled water is sometimes available for purchase, but it's less sustainable and may not be stocked in more remote sections of the trail. Additional Tips: In more remote stretches, both food and clean water may be limited, so plan accordingly. At higher elevations, water may freeze during the night, so it’s a good idea to fill your bottles in the evening. Bringing energy-dense snacks, such as protein bars or dry fruits, can also help maintain your energy levels throughout the trek.

For the Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek, it's wise to set aside an extra budget of approximately NPR 30,000 to 35,000 in addition to the main package cost. This amount can vary depending on your spending habits and the level of comfort you prefer during the trek. These additional funds will cover personal items and services such as WiFi access, hot showers, snacks, charging electronic devices, drinks, and optional purchases. It also includes costs for tipping guides and porters, shopping for souvenirs, or handling any unexpected needs that may arise along the way.

Yes, our 22-day Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek itinerary is thoughtfully designed to include adequate acclimatization periods. We’ve built in rest days in key villages such as Ghunsa and Kambachen, along with optional excursions to places like the Lo Monastery and explorations of the Nuphchu River valley. These activities support gradual altitude adjustment and help reduce the risk of altitude sickness. Though the trek is demanding, the journey is incredibly rewarding—offering breathtaking views of majestic peaks, pristine glaciers, and untouched alpine landscapes. Would you like help making this version more concise or beginner-friendly?

Our Kanchenjunga trek is shorter because we focus on delivering a more genuine trekking experience by skipping extended road-walking sections. Unlike other operators who may include lengthy walks along motorable roads, our 22-day itinerary is thoughtfully crafted to lead you through remote, less-traveled trails. This allows you to immerse yourself in the untouched wilderness and dramatic beauty of the eastern Himalayas. We aim to connect you with nature in its purest form, steering away from busy roads that can take away from the peaceful and adventurous spirit of the trek.

That said, if you're booking at the last minute, feel free to reach out—we’ll do our best to accommodate your request and get everything sorted in time!

No, Mt. Kanchenjunga was not originally known as the third highest mountain in the world. In fact, up until 1852, it was believed to be the tallest. This changed after precise measurements were conducted following the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India, which began around 1849. The survey revealed that Mount Everest (reached via the Everest Base Camp route) surpassed Kanchenjunga in elevation. It wasn't until 1856 that Kanchenjunga was officially recorded and publicly acknowledged as the world’s third highest peak.

The first successful ascent of Mt. Kanchenjunga was made by two British climbers, George Christopher Band and Joe Brown, on May 25, 1955. They reached the summit via the Southwest Face route. However, in a gesture of respect for local beliefs that consider the summit sacred, they stopped just five feet below the actual peak—honoring a promise not to set foot on the very top.

The Kanchenjunga Base Camp, located on the northern side of the mountain and known as Pangpema, sits at an elevation of 5,142 meters (16,873 feet) above sea level. This is the highest point of the trek, offering stunning views of the surrounding Himalayan landscape.

The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek offers the opportunity to spot a variety of wildlife, including Himalayan black bears, snow leopards, red pandas, and numerous bird species. You may encounter these animals in the lush forests near villages like Gyabia and Ghunsa, where dense vegetation provides a habitat for wildlife. Shy musk deer are also commonly seen grazing in the lower forested areas. The trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp (Pangpema) provides a unique chance to observe these rare creatures in their natural environment. At higher altitudes, you might spot blue sheep (Bharal) or mountain goats near Ramche and the Yalung Glacier. Snow leopards, though elusive, can sometimes be seen in the rocky terrain around Kambachen and Pangpema. The Kanchenjunga Conservation Area plays a vital role in preserving the region's biodiversity and protecting these rare and endangered species.
